The implementation of the ‘Siebenhirten E-Mobility’ project is an important part of Wiener Linien's efforts to make public transport sustainable and future-proof by means of electrification. There are 52 charging stations for e-buses under a large flying roof.
The small, existing dispatch building was converted and extended. The existing part contains ground-floor recreation and ancillary rooms, while the adjoining extension houses new training rooms. To allow continued use of the ground floor, the upper floor was constructed with lightweight cross-laminated timber elements.
The heart of the building services is the 360 kWp photovoltaic system, which is primarily used to charge vehicles. To reduce the necessarily high degree of sealing, extensive green roofs were created under the PV system on an area of around 3,000 m², and several facades were greened. In order to create an incentive for employees working on site to travel to and from work.
The final measurements of indoor air quality showed excellent values. Both the values for formaldehyde and for the total concentration of volatile organic compounds were in the very low range. The very good result of the klimaaktiv certification once again demonstrates the commitment of Wiener Linien to making a real contribution.
